Loughgall 5 - 0 Dollingstown
Loughgall progressed to the next round of the Mid-Ulster Cup following this comfortable victory over Dollingstown. Striker Dean Smith scored a hat-trick to make it 9 goals in his last 5 appearances for the Villagers.
Before the game there was a minutes silence held in honour of former Loughgall treasurer and committee member Robin McFadden who passed away on Tuesday night.
The home side broke the deadlock after only 7 minutes with their first real chance of the game. Good play by Marty Lavery saw Lukasz Adamczyk collect the ball on the edge of box before finding space and forcing ‘keeper Matthew Clarke into a smart save. Dean Smith was first to the rebound and he calmly slotted home.
On 14 minutes Brian Adair’s cross was headed goalwards by Smith however Gary Duke was excellently positioned on the line to clear the danger. 1 minute later Lavery played the ball through to Smith and his lay off was well struck by Adamczyk. The striker was unfortunate to see his effort run past the post.
On 21 minutes Loughgall doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after Smith had been hauled down by defender Mark Savage. Smith stepped up and sent ‘keeper Clarke the wrong way with a well taken penalty. After 24 minutes Alan Murphy floated an excellent ball into Ryan Moffatts path. The winger took a first time shot which was well saved at close range.
1 minute later Murphy should have extended Loughgall’s lead however he directed a free header over the crossbar following Glenn Waddell’s corner.
8 minutes before the break the Villagers scored the goal their continued attacking play deserved. Dean Smith played a fancy flick into Adamczyk’s path and the striker finished from inside the box.
After the interval Loughgall continued to threaten with Brian Adair going close with an effort from outside the penalty area. On 61 minutes the home side added to their lead when Smith notched another penalty success. Adair’s good footwork saw him upended in the box and Smith calmly sidefooted home for his hat-trick.
Dollingstown had two near misses in the second half and they really should have done better. Substitute Keith Lynch and Derek Shaw wasted their best chances when well placed.
With 1 minute remaining captain Darragh Peden saw his headed effort tipped onto the post by ‘keeper Clarke following a set piece.
Substitute Raymond Fitzpatrick scored a fine goal in injury time to make it five. He collected the ball on the edge of the box then performed a smart turn and shot which flew past Clarke into the bottom corner.
