Loughgall 3 – 1 Ards Rangers

McVeigh 12m Boyd 42m
Pentland 39m
Smith 85m

Four goals, three red cards and a flurry of tasty challenges made this a cup tie to remember at Lakeview Park.
Loughgall took the lead after 12 minutes when Marty Lavery pushed the ball through to striker Aiden McVeigh to sidefoot home from inside the penalty area.
Four minutes later ‘keeper Marc Robinson pulled off a wonderful point blank save to deny Johnny Heron and then Loughgall’s winger Ryan Evans was shown his second yellow card for a tough challenge on 30 minutes.
Villagers left-back Bryan Pentland played a smart interchange with Paul McDowell following a short corner and the former thrashed the ball into the top corner on 39 minutes.  Three minutes later Chris Boyd pulled a goal back when he got the final touch on a long free kick when challenging goalkeeper Robinson for the ball.
However in the second period goalscorer Boyd was dismissed for a poor challenge on Loughgall’s Lavery after 72 minutes.  And Loughgall missed a great chance to put the game beyond doubt three minutes later when Darragh Peden dragged his effort wide from inside the penalty area.
Steven Hislop came close to grabbing a leveller when he narrowly struck his 25 yard free kick over the crossbar in the 83rd minute.
Loughgall’s passage into the next stage of the Irish Cup was sealed with five minutes remaining when Andy Smith rifled an unstoppable low drive into the corner beyond ‘keeper Steven McKay from 25 yards.
However there was still time for a final red card of the game to be issued by referee Stephen Weatherall, for the host’s centre forward McDowell, as he was shown his second yellow for kicking the ball away in injury time.
