Loughgall 3 - 2 Tobermore United
Whatever Niall Currie said to his Loughgall troops at half time certainly worked! For his side were heading for their first defeat of the season when a goal and a man down at the interval meant an almost impossible task. However the Lakeview outfit came out storming in the second half and an excellent performance with two wonderfully executed goals sees them top the league after only two games.
Loughgall started well and could have opened the scoring after only 5 minutes when Brian Adair struck the crossbar after good battling by Dean Smith to create the chance.
One minute later Alan Murphy beat his marker to the front post to head home Ryan Moffatt’s perfect delivery from a corner. The Villagers continued to try and extend their lead; however, striker Smith failed to connect with Bryan Pentland’s whipped cross on 9 minutes.
On 24 minutes Darragh Peden launched a forward ball which Lukasz Adamczyk flicked into Dean Smith’s path but unfortunately the striker saw his volleyed effort run wide when well placed.
The home side’s first menacing attack of the game resulted in the equaliser. Paul Owens’ corner was nodded past ‘keeper Marc Robinson by Stewart McCallum on 26 minutes.
On the half hour mark Loughgall were dealt a huge blow when a penalty was awarded to Tobermore when Glenn Waddell handled inside the box and was subsequently dismissed. Paul Owens stepped up and sent Robinson the wrong way to put the home side in the lead.
One minute before the break, Adamczyk found space inside the box before unleashing a powerful shot goalwards. Hassan in the away goals did well to save the low effort down to his left.
10-man Loughgall came out for the second half in determined fashion as they pressed for an equaliser. On 56 minutes Darragh Peden headed a Moffatt corner just over after managing to lose his marker. 5 minutes later Adair played the ball down the right wing to Smith whose low cross was headed goalwards by Adamczyk only for the defence to clear the ball off the line.
The Villagers scored the goal that they deserved on 63 minutes when excellent midfield play between Moffatt and Adair saw a crisp pass well held up by Smith up front. Adamczyk sidefooted home from just inside the box after Smith’s lay off.
On 75 minutes the impressive Owens almost scored but saw his left-footed shot from the edge of the box narrowly go over the crossbar.
With 11 minutes remaining Adamczyk threaded a low pass through to Moffatt inside the box who delightfully curled the ball past ‘keeper Hassan to complete a remarkable second half performance.
On 85 minutes Tobermore almost equalised with a re-run of their opening goal. However Owens corner was headed past the post by McCallum when well placed.
