Loughgall 7 - 0 Broomhedge
Loughgall fielded a much changed side ahead of last Tuesday night’s important cup final and they easily disposed of Broomhedge. Manager Niall Currie started in goals and had extremely little to do all game. Neil Alderdice was the only player to retain his place from Tuesday night’s win over Dollingstown in the Mid-Ulster Cup.
The home side were two goals up early on when Andy Brown glanced Noel Robinson’s free kick past ‘keeper Roy McCrea after only 2 minutes. On 6 minutes Brown played a short pass to Ally Beck who slotted into the bottom corner from inside the penalty area.
Broomhedge ‘keeper McCrea made two great saves from point blank range from Beck and Robinson on 10 minutes.
After 14 minutes a long ball put Brown into the clear only for a tremendous last ditch tackle by Darren Lynn. The ball broke to Beck who fired wide from close range.
On 18 minutes Loughgall added to their advantage when Noel Robinson’s floated corner was headed home by Ray Fitzpatrick.
After 33 minutes Fitzpatrick, playing a centre back, embarked on a solo run down the left wing and he did well to chip over ‘keeper McCrea however Darren Riddell was on call to clear the danger.
After the interval Beck should have scored however he pulled two good chances wide of the post when well positioned.
On 61 minutes Mickey O’Neill saw his headed effort cleared off the line by Lynn, however 6 minutes later he got on the scoresheet. Brown played a pass into O’Neill’s feet and the midfielder showed composure to finish when through. After 73 minutes Andy Smith, just back from an injury lay-off, scored his first goal in a Loughgall shirt when he blasted home from 25 yards.
On 78 minutes Ryan Dickson threaded a pass though to Brown who rounded the goalkeeper. However the striker was at a poor angle and he layed off to Dickson who rifled the ball into the top corner to make it six.
With 4 minutes remaining Noel Robinson tried a snapshot and was unfortunate to see it come off the post. The Villagers scored their seventh goal of the game in injury time when O’Neill collected Smith’s pass in the penalty area before turning and shooting past ‘keeper McCrea.
