Loughgall Lakers 0 – 2 Larne Ladies

The Lakers suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of Larne Ladies in the National Divisional Cup.
The game started brightly with Loughgall creating the first chance of the game.  Brooke Jordan took control of the ball in the centre of defence and passed out wide to Carolyn Sullivan, who sent a long ball forward to Amy McCallister.  The winger beat her player and ran to the by line before drilling the ball across the face of goal but Rebecca Capper was unable to get the crucial touch and the opportunity passed.   On 18 minutes Larne scored their first goal of the game when a defensive mistake from the Lakers allowed a Larne striker in to chip ‘keeper Michelle Stephens from the edge of the box.  Shortly after Loughgall created another opportunity when Stacey Hamilton sent a superb ball forward to Philippa Toal whose cross was met by Delia Ferguson, but unfortunately the strikers shot was deflected away for a throw in.
After the break, Larne started the brighter of the two teams, creating numerous chances and were unlucky not to add to their goal tally early on.  On 60 minutes the Lakers created their first chance of the second half following a good through ball from Jordan into the path of Toal.  The pacy striker latched onto it well and ghosted past her marker but was unfortunate to see her well drilled shot on goal saved by the Larne ‘keeper.  On 75 minutes Larne scored their second goal through some impressive play in midfield.  A defence splitting ball was played through and a Larne striker ran onto it to score past ‘keeper Stephens in the home goal.
Loughgall pressed forward for the remaining 15 minutes but were unable to find a way past the resolute Larne defence.
