Ballyvange Ladies 0 – 7 Loughgall Lakers

The Lakers have progressed through to the quarter finals of the Irish Cup after a convincing 7 – 0 victory over Ballyvange Ladies.

Loughgall created their first chance after only 6 minutes when Sabrina Campbell played Amy McCallister in but the home ‘keeper made a fine save, putting the ball out for a corner.  McCallister whipped the corner in and striker Philippa Toal was unlucky to see her header go narrowly over the crossbar.

On 20 minutes the Lakers were awarded a free kick following a handball just outside the box by Ballyvange.  Brooke Jordan stepped up to hit and saw her shot deflected back of the wall.  The midfielder, however, kept her composure and rounded a defender before placing the ball in the corner of the net for the first goal of the game.

Loughgall then found themselves 3 – 0 up within the next 5 minutes, first through Toal who did excellently to slide the ball in from a tight angle and then a goal from Esther Irwin following a positive darting run into the box from the midfielder.

Just before the half the Lakers added their fourth goal when left back Sabrina Campbell sent an excellent long ball forward to Capper.  The striker produced a superb individual run from the half way line and struck the ball into the top corner of the net.

Just after the re-start, right back Lynne Beattie scored her first goal of the season from just outside the box to put Loughgall five goals in front.  Capper added her second of the game 10 minutes later when a good pass from Toal put her through clear on goal.  Constant pressure from the Lakers was creating all sorts of problems for Ballyvange and substitute Laura McClure nearly added a seventh goal with her first touch of the game but was unfortunate to see her shot go just wide of the post.  The Lakers did add a further goal to their tally on 75 minutes following good attacking play down the right.  Beattie played the ball up the wing to McClure who delivered a cross that was headed in by Toal for her second goal of the game and her seventh of the season so far.
