Early pressure was contained well by a solid Loughgall defence in which 2 changes were made from the previous week's victory against Glenavon. On fifteen minutes a good break down the right-hand side set Rebecca Tedford free into space, but her shot went just wide.
Loughgall continued to press with joy coming down both flanks, but with no end product.
On thirty-five minutes a break-through came when Amy McCallister ran on to a ball over the top of the Larne defence. Her shot was well saved but the rebound was followed in by Phillipa Toal who coolly slotted home to make it 1-0 to the Lakers at half-time.
Playing with the wind behind them in the second-half the Lakers came out strong. Their sustained pressure was rewarded with a well worked corner between Amy McCallister and Stacey Hamilton, which resulted in the former scoring well - hard and low into the bottom corner, beating the Larne goal-keeper at her near post.
Further chances were created which would have sealed the game off, but a Larne free-kick fifteen minutes from time reduced the deficit to one. This made for a nervier end to the game as Larne pressed for an equalizer. The Loughgall defence, however, stood firm and resolute and the girls recorded another well-earned three points in their league campaign. |
