Loughgall Lakers recorded their fifth win the season when they eased to victory against Glenavon Ladies.
The first chance of the game fell to Lakers striker Philippa Toal who collected Amy McCallister’s flick-on after only 2 minutes before narrowly shooting wide. In the 6th minute Toal again caused problems in the Glenavon defence and almost grabbed the opener, McCallister’s floated corner was headed goalwards by Toal only to be cleared off the line by an alert defender.
Toal played through Esther Irwin, who broke from midfield, and her cross was parried by Glenavon ‘keeper Leanne Jones. Rebecca Capper was quickest to react and managed to beat her marker, however was unlucky to drag her effort wide of the mark.
The goal that the Lakers were threatening finally came 5 minutes before the interval, when another well delivered corner from McCallister was touched on by Lynne Beattie and Capper side footed home from close range.
Shortly after the break Beattie played the ball down the right channel for Toal to run onto, she managed to beat her marker and shoot across goal. Goalkeeper Jones excellently saved low to her left and the ball was cleared out for a throw.
Loughgall deservedly extended their lead with 15 minutes remaining when McCallister linked up well with Valerie Wilson to allow her to cross in for Capper to strike into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
On 80 minutes Claire Rooney’s clever pass to McCallister allowed her time to play an excellent forward ball for Toal to chase. The striker raced away from the defence and forced the visitors ‘keeper into another superb low save.
The Lakers could have scored a further goal when Capper found space and passed into Toal’s path, however the striker was unable to keep her effort on target.
