This top of the table clash between the Lakers and Donegal Celtic proved to be a very competitive one with the winning goal being scored in the very last minute.
On 10 minutes Donegal Celtic carved out the opening goal when persistence from Tamsin Strain forced a defensive mistake, allowing the striker to run free and slot the ball past ‘keeper Michelle Stephens. The first half proved to be a very even affair and Loughgall eventually got the equaliser they had been pressing for just before half time when Stacey Hamilton managed to score straight from a corner kick. This was just the boost the Lakers needed to come out and take the game to Donegal Celtic in the second half. Right from the whistle Loughgall immediately pressed forward when Sabrina Campbell played the ball up the wing to Valerie Wilson, whose cross was then deflected out for a corner. An excellent ball played in by Hamilton was parried by the ‘keeper and Rebecca Capper reacted first to put the ball in the net. 10 minutes later Donegal Celtic scored their second when a free kick beat the Lakers defence and allowed Tamsin Strain in to score her second of the game. On 70 minutes Capper sent a superb ball out wide for Wilson who controlled and beat her player but unfortunately saw her shot well saved by the ‘keeper. Just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw, Philippa Toal collected the ball inside her own half and played an excellent ball forward to Esther Irwin to run onto. The midfielder’s run took her past her marker and allowed her to square the ball across the box for Capper to score the winner in the final minute.
