The Lakers progressed into the 2nd round of the Irish Cup thanks to this convincing 5 – 0 victory over Glenavon Ladies at Mourneview Park.
The opening goal came after only 9 minutes when impressive link-up play between Sabrina Campbell and Phillipa Toal led to the latter smashing into the roof of the net from 8 yards.
Loughgall were dominating all over the pitch and scored their second goal again through Toal. The pacey striker latched onto a ball played out wide by Brooke Jordan and made a good run to the byline where she cut inside and put in a shot which beat both the Glenavon ‘keeper and a defender at the near post.
Two minutes later Rebecca Capper slipped a lovely weighted ball through to the on-rushing Toal who lost her marker but unfortunately fired just over.
On 42 minutes, Capper again turned on the style with a superb goal. The talented striker received the ball wide on the left and controlled well before beating her marker and unleashing a thunderbolt strike from 20 yards.
Just before the break, Glenavon produced what proved to be their only real attempt on goal but the shot from the edge of the penalty area was easily parried by Michelle Stevens.
Shortly after the restart, substitute Valerie Wilson scored the Lakers fourth goal when she fired past the home ‘keeper and into the net, following a quick one-two with Toal.
Loughgall continued to press forward to extend their lead and came close again when Stacey Hamilton saw her long range effort sail narrowly over the crossbar.
The final goal came on 75 minutes as a result of a well worked set piece. Hamilton’s quick free kick released Jordan into space where she drove into the box and left the ‘keeper no chance with a crisp low strike.
The Lakers will now face Ballyvange away in the next round. |
