Loughgall suffered their second successive 2-1 reverse as Portadown emerged victors in the derby fixture at Shamrock Park.
An entertaining and open start to the game saw both sides go close. Chris Lavery forced a good save from Loughgall ‘keeper Gareth Buchanan when well positioned, while Nathaniel Ferris missed a wonderful opportunity as he shot wide after being released clear.
Portadown scored the opening goal after 25 minutes when a fantastic move saw Jamie Douglas find Craig McMillen on the left flank and he provided an excellent cross for Lavery to acrobatically convert from within the penalty area.
Loughgall levelled on 54 minutes when Dale Montgomery smashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner off the post giving Ports’ ‘keeper McGaughey no chance.
Despite the equaliser, Portadown were on top and scored the winning goal in the 69th minute when Lavery’s free-kick delivery was glanced home by Adam McCallum.
