Goals in either half from Peter Campbell and Nathaniel Ferris saw Loughgall keep up their push for a top six place with a deserved away victory against Knockbreda.
Played in difficult conditions at Breda Park, Loughgall thought they had opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Marc McConnell’s shot from outside the area was touched on by Marcus Dallas into the path of Conor Mullen. The forward finished from close range however he was adjudged to have been in an offside position.
The hosts should have done better one minute later when Kyle Mackie’s pinpoint cross was headed wide by forward Chris Watts in a good position.
Nathaniel Ferris threatened on 33 minutes when he flashed a 25 yard effort narrowly wide.
The Villagers’ opening goal came four minutes before the break when Mark Stewart’s superb forward pass was deftly controlled by Mullen. He played in Peter Campbell, running through, who finished low beyond Breda ‘keeper Jason Craughwell.
Knockbreda sent an early warning in the second half when Michael O’Hanlon was denied by goalkeeper Gareth Buchanan.
But Loughgall doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute when wonderful play by Campbell, on the edge of the penalty area, saw the diminutive winger find space to cross towards the back post where Ferris made no mistake.
Buchanan made another great stop in the Loughgall goals to deny subsitute Lewis Irwin when he was played through into a one-on-one situation.
Knockbreda scored a late consolation in injury time when Ryan Newberry’s cross was fired in by Irwin with a great first-time finish.
