Loughgall moved into the top six thanks after deservedly beating title challengers Institute at Lakeview Park.
Loughgall made the perfect start when Jamie Douglas converted Peter Campbell’s corner delivery after only three minutes.
The Villagers went extremely close in the 12th minute as Craig Taylor’s left footed 25 yard drive was parried by ‘Stute keeper Marty Gallagher and Caoimhin Bonner got back well to deny Andrew Hoey who was sliding in. The hosts did score their second from Campbell’s resulting corner when Ricky Copeland nodded home from close range.
Stute were agonisingly close to grabbing a goal back within 60 seconds when Niall Grace saw his effort, from just inside the penalty area, superbly tipped wide by Loughgall keeper Craig Robinson.
The visitors netted on 34 minutes when Michael McCrudden pulled the ball back for strike partner Grace to fire home beyond Robinson low into the bottom corner.
Insitute began to control possession in the second half however both sides had good chances with Loughgall looking dangerous on the break.
It was one of these counter-attacks that sealed the game late on when Loughgall substitute Marc McConnell cut inside from the right flank and fired low past Gallagher.
Institute’s miserable night was made worse when captain McCrudden was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury time.
