Institute made it nine league games unbeaten following a hard fought victory over a Loughgall side missing a number of key players.
Those missing from Dean Smith’s panel included Marcus Dallas, Steven Ferguson, Josh Finlay, Jamie Rea, Jordan Campbell and Craig Taylor whilst Gareth Buchanan was forced off from his return from injury after only 15 minutes.
Stute captain Michael McCrudden opened the scoring from the penalty spot after only three minutes, when Ronan Wilson was upended inside the penalty area by Paul Stretton. The diminutive forward fired the spot-kick low into the bottom right hand corner just under Gareth Buchanan’s diving body.
The Villagers hit the post on 43 minutes through Peter Campbell’s shot from tight angle that crashed off the post.
Right on the stroke of half-time Loughgall went close again when Mark Stewart’s header from six yards, hit the crossbar.
Institute started the second period quickly and extended their advantage in the 52nd minute when Niall Grace fired high beyond ‘keeper Craig Robinson from inside the penalty area.
The hosts netted their third on 70 minutes when Aaron Harkin’s corner was converted after a goalmouth scramble by Grace for his second goal of the game.
