Michael Halliday’s first-half goal was the difference between the sides at Lakeview Park as Knockbreda notched their second win of the season.
In the 24th minute the hosts had Conor Mullen to thank as he was well positioned on the goal line to deny striker Halliday after Lewis Irwin’s cross.
On 27 minutes great skill by Ciaran Murray outside the area allowed the forward to cross to the near post. Halliday reacted well to connect with a flick over his head that looped in the far post beyond goalkeeper Gareth Buchanan.
Loughgall started the second period with an increased pace and almost levelled within one minute of the restart. Peter Campbell’s whipped cross was met by Mullen’s header however Knockbreda ‘keeper David Ferguson expertly parried. Marc McConnell then shot from an almost impossible angle and the ball rolled right across the goalmouth without any home player able to connect with it.
Goalkeeper Ferguson made two great saves in the final stages, to deny substitute Andrew Hoey’s headed effort and Jamie Douglas’ ferocious strike, to earn all three points.
