Loughgall finished a rollercoaster season with a 4-1 reverse against champions Warrenpoint Town at Lakeview Park. The result confirms Loughgall finish in 6th position – a remarkable feat considering that the Villagers were 2nd bottom with 2 wins from 13 league games when Dean Smith took the reigns in November.
Loughgall made the perfect start and were ahead after 14 minutes when a sharp counter-attack saw Jordan Baker thread a fantastic pass for Mark McCullough to race onto and finish confidently past Town ‘keeper Stephen Maguire.
Warrenpoint almost replied instantly when Philip Donnelly’s cross was met by Ruari Croskery at the back post however he missed when well placed.
Town equalised on the stroke of half-time when a short backpass meant Villagers ‘keeper Tyler Blair’s clearance deflected off John McGuigan and into the net.
Curtis Dempster put the visitors in front with a smart finish from close range on 53 minutes and Croskery struck again on the hour mark after good play from Donnelly.
Point’s lead was extended late on when a defensive mix-up between Mark Stewart and ‘keeper Blair allowed the opportune Dempster to sidefoot home into an empty net.
