Loughgall’s young forward John Uprichard landed the Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Association’s Championship Player of the Month award for December.
21-year-old John scored three goals in December as the Villagers secured a 100% record in the month. Since manager Dean Smith joined the Lakeview club, they have climbed away from the relegation zone. In December they recorded wins over Institute, Armagh City and Harland & Wolff Welders.
John is hoping to carry his good form into the Irish Cup. Loughgall host Fivemiletown United in the Fifth Round on Saturday.
“An Irish Cup run would mean everything to us. It’s the biggest cup competition in the country and it would be great to go on a run and face a top Premiership club.
“But we are taking Fivemiletown very seriously. We’ve talked about them at training and we’ve been made away that they are one of the most improved teams in local football.
“We’ve won five of our last six games, so hopefully we can carry our good league form into the cup.”
John continued, “It’s a great honour for me to win this award. I can’t believe it to be honest. I’ve worked hard at my game, coming up through the Mid-Ulster League, and I’m grateful to Loughgall for giving me a chance in the Irish League.”
