Loughgall bounced back from last week’s defeat to league leaders Warrenpoint Town with a convincing away victory against Larne. Ricky Copeland marked his inclusion back from serving a suspension with two goals, while Graeme Taylor, Jamie Rea, Stefan McMaster, Andrew Hoey and Jordan Baker also came into the starting line-up.
After an even start to the game the hosts took the lead after 19 minutes when Matthew Henry’s low cross from the right wing was converted at the back post by Andrew Mooney.
Dean Smith’s side almost equalised three minutes later when Jordan Baker headed Steven Ferguson’s free-kick goalwards however Larne goalkeeper Joel Madison did well to tip over the crossbar.
Loughgall levelled three minutes before the break when Peter Campbell’s 25 yard curling free-kick evaded everyone to finish into the back post past home ‘keeper Madison.
On the stroke of half-time, Larne midfielder Henry missed a great opportunity when the ball fell kindly to him inside the Loughgall goalmouth and he blazed over.
On the hour mark the Villagers seized a deserved lead when Ricky Copeland fired in from a corner kick that failed to be cleared. And Loughgall made sure of the win on 77 minutes when good build up play by striker Jordan Baker allowed in-form Marc McConnell to cooly fire home for his fourth goal in six games.
Copeland netted his second with seven minutes remaining to wrap up a convincing win for the visitors. Campbell’s corner delivery was mishandled by Larne ‘keeper Madison to allow Copeland to head in from close range.
