Institute 2 – 0 Loughgall

Loughgall left the Riverside Stadium frustrated as they were undone by two late goals from Gareth Brown and Alex Pomeroy. It looked like the Villagers were going to earn an excellent point however a momentary lapse in concentration made the difference.

Institute threatened after only three minutes but were denied when Ricky Copeland cleared Michael McCrudden’s deflected shot off the line.

Loughgall went close in the 21st minute when Daniel Ryan smashed a shot from a narrow angle that was well parried by Stute ‘keeper Martin Gallagher.

McCrudden missed an excellent chance on 34 minutes when Ciaron Harkin slipped the ball through to the winger, however he couldn’t find a way past away goalkeeper Gareth Buchanan.

The diminutive McCrudden threatened again in the second period; on 71 minutes he forced Buchanan into a smart save with his headed effort.

The hosts netted with three minutes remaining when Loughgall failed to clear their lines; the ball fell for Brown who slotted home from close range.

And one minute later Institute scored their second as substitute Pomeroy was released clear and he had the time to pick his spot past Buchanan.
