Loughgall 0 – 3 Linfield Swifts

Loughgall bowed out of the Intermediate Cup with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Linfield Swifts. Conor McMenamin, who spend part of the season on loan at Lakeview Park, was the hero for Swifts as he claimed a well-taken hat-trick.

Linfield were well on top throughout the first half and created a few chances; striker Rodney Brown couldn’t keep his headed effort on goal on 15 minutes.

The deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute when the ball fell kindly inside the penalty area and McMenamin delayed before striking low into the bottom corner beyond ‘keeper Symon Ferguson.

Loughgall began to threaten more in the second half and came close on 64 minutes when Warner Mullen’s vicious shot was expertly pushed past the post by goalkeeper Sam Johnston.

One minute later Johnston was rounded by Aaron Patteron, after good play by Wesley Boyle, however the forward hit the side netting from a tight angle.

Swifts doubled their lead on 78 minutes when impressive build-up resulted in McMenamin firing home from close range.

And the the scoring was completed late in injury time when a counter-attack saw substitute Paul Smyth, through one-on-one on goal, denied by ‘keeper Ferguson. The ball parried back to Smyth and he set McMenamin up to net his hat-trick.
