An impressive performance saw H&W Welders continue their title push as they condemned Loughgall to a 3 – 0 reverse at Tillysburn Park.
Manager Noel Mitchell provided a debut to Tom Carlin and also welcomed Jeff Brady back in the squad after they missed last week’s Intermediate Cup loss through ineligibility.
Welders opened the scoring in the 20th minute in fortunate fashion when Mark Stewart’s clearance deflected off the unknowing Ryan Deans and beyond goalkeeper Symon Ferguson.
Loughgall, who had been battling well, were dealt a huge blow in first-half injury time; referee Graham McIlwrath pointed to the spot after Ricky Copeland’s challenge on Paul Dickson. Michael McClelland dispatched the penalty with confidence low into the corner.
Striker McClelland netted the hosts final goal on 78 minutes when he lobbed ‘keeper Ferguson with plenty of time to apply his finish.
Loughgall: Symon Ferguson, Carson, Black (Brady 81m), Stewart, Copeland, Henderson, Dallas (Reynolds 56m), Carlin (Patterson 58m), Boyle, Moffatt, Mullen.
