Dergview condemned Loughgall to their fifth league game without a win as Nathan Cashel and Aaron Arkinson netted in each half to earn all three points. And substitute Colum Curtis’ dismissal deep into injury time compounded a miserable day for the Villagers.
Manager Brian Adair made two changes from the side that defeated Armagh City on penalties in midweek. Conor McMenamin and Daniel Burns replaced Warner Mullen and Chris Kingsberry respectively.
Dergview opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Nathan Cashel broke clear down the left flank, amid strong claims the ball was over the touch line, before racing through on goal. The winger did superbly to slot home past goalkeeper Gareth Buchanan from a narrow angle.
Loughgall rallied after the break and started to control the majority of the play. However, for all their possession, they struggled to test the host’s ‘keeper Boggs.
The Castlederg side doubled their lead on 73 minutes when Aaron Arkinson intercepted Steven O’Neill’s pass on the halfway line. The tricky winger raced through on goal, seeing off Kevin Anderson’s last ditch challenge, before firing past ‘keeper Buchanan.
The Villagers came close to scoring in the final five minutes when firstly substitute Warner Mullen curled a free kick narrowly over the crossbar. Then Mark Carson’s cross was met by O’Neill’s strong header however he couldn’t find a way past Boggs.
Loughgall: Buchanan, Carson, Rodgers, Stewart (Dallas 45m), Copeland, Ferguson, Anderson, Moffatt, McMenamin (Mullen 78m), O’Neill, D Burns (Curtis 56m). Unused sub: Kingsberry.
