Loughgall collected all three points away from home for the first time this season with a deserved win over ten-man PSNI. And manager Brian Adair will be delighted with his sides’ performance especially in front of goal.
A frantic start saw four goals in the opening 15 minutes. Loughgall got off to a dream start when, after 4 minutes, Ryan Moffatt’s corner was headed down by new signing Conor McMenamin, at the back post, for Neil Alderdice to poke home from close range.
PSNI equalised 3 minutes later when Jordan Dane rose highest to head home Matt Holden’s whipped corner.
The Villagers regained their lead in the 13th minute when Stephen O’Neill deftly chipped ‘keeper Matt Quinn however the ball crashed back off the crossbar and winger Moffatt was perfectly positioned to fire home the rebound.
The lead was increased 2 minutes later when McMenamin and the impressive Marcus Dallas played a smart one-two. Then McMenamin played in a great chipped ball for O’Neill to chip the hesitant Quinn to cap a wonderful team move.
Goalkeeper Quinn did exceptionally well in the 17th minute to prevent O’Neill from scoring his second with a superb low save.
The hosts were harshly reduced to ten men when, 5 minutes before the interval, Ashton McDermott, was shown two yellow cards after an altercation with Kevin Anderson. The first caution was shown for the foul and then a second was shown for dissent after arguing the decision with referee Simon Creaney.
The scoring was completed on the stroke of half-time when Dallas teed up O’Neill to head home from inside the penalty area with a pinpoint cross.
The second period produced little in the way of goal scoring opportunities with Loughgall comfortably controlling the game with their extra man advantage.
PSNI did have the best chance with 1 minute remaining when Joe McWilliams header from Gareth McLaughlin’s corner was saved on the goal line.
