Two goals from the in-form Stephen O’Neill and a 2nd half strike from captain Ryan Moffatt was enough to get Loughgall the three points and up and running in Belfast Telegraph Championship 1 after an opening day defeat at Dundela. Loughgall were able to welcome back Steven Ferguson for his 1st appearance of the season after suspension and also Adam Rodgers made his debut after a recent move from Ards FC.
Former Loughgall striker Stephen Doyle put Distillery in the lead early on after being put through on goal but two O’Neill goals for the Villagers before then end of the 1st half turned the game in Loughgall’s favour, who could have went 3-1 up on the stroke of half-time after a superb solo run from winger Daniel Burns who waltzed through the Distillery defence before slipping in James Costello who shot narrowly wide.
Loughgall started the 2nd half the brighter side with the introduction of the impressive Anto Burns into the attack adding abit of pace to Loughgall’s approach play and it was him who set up Loughgall’s third after shrugging off a few tackles he put Ryan Moffett in on goal who made no mistake with a sweet finish into top corner. O’Neill was at centre of action again midway through 2nd half as an altercation with the Distillery right back ended up in him recieving a 2nd yellow and Loughgall were down to 10 men for remainder of game. At this stage Loughgall were firmly in control and happy to see the result through and take the 3 points.
