Loughgall started their 2014/15 campaign with a heavy defeat at the hands of Dundela at Wilgar Park.
Boss Brian Adair started with six new additions from last seasons squad; Gareth Buchanan as goalkeeper, Paul Walsh and Ricky Copeland in defence, Andy Smith and Daniel Burns in midfield, and Stephen O’Neill in attack. Other new signings Marcus Dallas, Anto Burns, Neil Alderdice and Gary Boyle were all included on the substitutes bench.
Dundela opened the scoring after only six minutes when Jordan West’s effort crashed off the crossbar, Michael Halliday’s rebound effort was superbly parried by Buchanan however the goalkeeper could do nothing to save Nathan Jones’ follow-up attempt.
Six minutes before the break, Dundela ‘keeper Stephen McKay raced out well to save from James Costello after Daniel Burns’ great through-ball.
The hosts doubled their lead just into the second period when striker Halliday was on hand to smash home from close range after Mark Stewart’s glancing header, from a long throw, came back against the post.
And four minutes it was even worse for the Villagers when central midfielder West curled a fantastic 20-yard shot into the top corner out of the reach of Buchanan.
The scoring was wrapped up with four minutes remaining when Halliday’s cross was directed off the bar and substitute Carl McCombe was on hand to rifle home the rebound from close range.
