James Costello netted two goals on debut for Loughgall FC but it was not enough as they went down to Welders in a 5 goal thriller that exploded to life in the 2nd half. Brian Adair handed debut’s to new signings David Cully, Jack McCreanor, Wayne Drummond and Costello in a game that was played in difficult conditions as the heavy pitch was tough for both teams to play alot of football. Welder’s took the lead on the 12th min thanks to a goal from former Loughgall forward Mattie Burrows after being set up by Josh Cahoon. Drummond in goal made a couple of good saves in the 1st half to keep Loughgall in the game with Wes Boyle going close at the other end for Loughgall drawing a save from Lee Windrum.
Half-Time: Loughgall 0-1 H&W Welders
Burrow’s again was in the action at start of 2nd half forcing a fine point-blank save from Drummond with a well struck volley, Loughgall were looking for some inspiration and that came from Costello who out of nowhere scored a wonderful goal, picking the ball up about 35 yards out and chipped the goal keeper Windrum with a superb shot. This sprung Loughgall into life and the industrious Jude Ballard went close with a volley from a Costello cross. Costello put Loughgall 2-1 up on 81min firing home after cutting in from left hand side but after the re-start Welders replied straight away through a Cahoon penalty after a foul in the box, Cahoon was involved again as he hit the winner on 89min after he capatilised on a defence mixup. Costello had a chance to grab his hat-trick right at the end and level things for Loughgall but Windrum made a good save with his leg’s, frantic last 15min’s but it was Welders who went home with the points.
