A Daniel Ryan double saw Loughgall impressively inflict a first league defeat for H&W Welders at Tillysburn Park.
Loughgall manager Gary McKinstry welcomed back Johnny Montgomery to the starting line-up following a lengthy absence. There were also returns for Declan McVeigh, Jude Ballard, Mark Carson and Jeff Brady from the 4 – 1 win over Annagh United two weeks ago.
Ryan’s opener came in the 13th minute after impressive build-up play by Mark Carson, the winger skilfully beat Craig Harris before firing a low cross that was expertly converted by the alert Ryan.
The forward grabbed his second on 25 minutes when he raced onto Adam Rodgers’ forward ball before confidently finishing low past goalkeeper Lee Windrum.
The Welders threatened on the half hour when Stephen Cockcroft’s corner was powerfully headed goalwards by Philip Simpson but Loughgall ‘keeper Willie McKinstry smartly tipped over.
Daniel Ryan missed a great opportunity for his hat-trick when he latched onto Steven Ferguson’s forward pass. The striker blazed over when well placed with only Windrum to beat.
The hosts netted with four minutes remaining when Mark Magennis’ shot from the edge of the area was deflected into Chris Middleton’s feet and the substitute shot against the post. The ball bounced back into the danger area and Paul Dickson was on hand to sidefoot home from close range.
