A dominant four-goal performance saw Loughgall condemn a hapless Bangor side to their first defeat of the season, as well as earning the hosts their first league win at home.
Boss Colin Malone kept faith with the same starting XI that won 1 – 0 at home to Coagh United last week; however he made a tactical change pushing Adam Pedlow up front to partner Stephen Doyle and, as a result, position Marty Verner on the left hand side of midfield. And the change certainly worked as the Villagers continually looked threatening as they created a host of opportunities.
Loughgall were ahead after only 7 minutes when Dale Malone’s whipped corner bounced quickly off the ground and Bangor forward Mark O’Gormley inadvertently headed into his own goal. And the home side could have doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Doyle beat outrushing ‘keeper Dean Justin to the ball before crossing into the penalty area where captain Verner saw his header crash off the crossbar.
Three minutes later Verner had the ball in Bangor’s net however he was ruled to have been offside as he scrambled home from close range after Doyle’s initial shot was parried.
However the Villagers scored a deserved second in first half injury time when Jeff Brady’s long free-kick was headed across goal by Malone and Doyle nipped in to direct his header home to score his first goal in Loughgall colours.
Bangor started the second period better and caused a few problems in the Loughgall defence; the best being, on 59 minutes, when Glenn Bowers miserably fired high and wide when he was afforded space in the penalty area.
And that miss was swiftly punished as, one minute later, the impressive Stephen Ferguson played a chipped pass over the Bangor back-line which Malone raced onto before rounding ‘keeper Justin and side-footing into an empty net.
The scoring was wrapped up with five minutes remaining as Malone netted his second with an acrobatic volley following ‘keeper Justin’s poor clearance from Verner’s corner delivery.
