An entertaining draw was served up at Lakeview Park to continue Loughgall’s promising start to the season, and secure Dergview’s first point of the new campaign.
John Guy could’ve given the Villagers a dream start when he latched onto Davy Hawthorne’s lobbed through-ball on ten minutes, however he was twarted by a superb block from Johnny McCaskie.
On 21 minutes Jeff Brady played a ball across the edge of the penalty area which Marty Verner flicked onto Dale Malone, the winger steadied himself but fired just wide of the post.
Dergview’s best chance of the half came six minutes before half-time when Ryan Campbell collected the ball inside the box; he worked a shooting opportunity forcing ‘keeper Marc Robinson to tip over the crossbar.
Loughgall didn’t have to wait long into the second period to break the deadlock as on 47 minutes Alain Emerson nodded Malone’s corner past the helpless ‘keeper Stefan McCusker.
Ten minutes later forward Guy came close to extending the home side’s advantage when he was on the end of Adam Pedlow’s low cross, however ‘keeper McCusker saved strongly from close range.
The visitors levelled through Nathan Cashel’s excellent long run which culminated in a fine right-footed strike into the top corner in the 72nd minute.
And Dergview almost grabbed all three points only for a smart low save from Robinson to deny Campbell’s well-struck effort with ten minutes remaining.
