Ballinamallard United continued their excellent recent series of results over Loughgall with a late 2 – 1 away win.
In an entertaining game both sides battled well and created numerous chances – the hosts’ had an superb opportunity ten minutes before the break when Dean Smith’s cross was misjudged by Mallards’ defender Mark Stafford. The ball quickly came to Shea Campbell who managed to direct a touch goalwards however ‘keeper Trevor Morrison denied the striker at point blank range.
A splendid chipped ball from Gary Maguire was expertly controlled by Andy Crawford, on his chest running into the penalty area, and the striker saw his low strike smartly saved by home goalkeeper Marc Robinson.
The opening goal came on 66 minutes when a pass was slipped through to Duwayne McManus who provided a great finish from inside the penalty area.
Mallards held the lead for only seven minutes as Campbell bagged his eighth goal of the season converting from close range after Davy Hawthorne did well to set-up the chance.
The Villagers pressed to find the winner and were almost rewarded with 11 minutes remaining when substitute Paul McDowell released Shea McGerrigan to rifle his shot agonisingly against the base of the post.
Goalscorer McManus grabbed the headlines with his 89th minute winner that saw Ballinamallard rise four places in the Championship league table. A quick break allowed the impressive Chris Curran to square for McManus to tap home from close range.
