Loughgall eased through to the second round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup with an emphatic 6 – 1 home win over Ballymoney United.
The Villagers enjoyed an excellent first half playing superb football and deservedly lead 4 – 1 at the break. Debutant Shea Campbell opened the scoring after only 8 minutes when he tapped home from close range after ‘keeper Ryan Martin parried Andy Smith’s driving effort from outside the penalty area.

Loughgall’s second goal came courtesy of Dean Smith’s fourth of the season on 15 minutes. On 23 minutes McGerrigan’s sensational pace saw him leave two defenders with ease at the half way line before striking a low shot towards the back post which Campbell tapped in however he was adjudged to be in an offside position.
The Villagers continued to press to extend their lead and in the 29th minute Campbell made and scored a great goal all by himself. He did well to close down a defender before running onto the loose ball and coolly firing past ‘keeper Martin.
Loughgall scored again one minute before the break when Chris Kingsberry’s corner wasn’t dealt with in the Ballymoney six-yard area allowing Neil Alderdice to smash the ball home.
Two minutes into first-half injury time, United grabbed a goal back when Randal Reid forced a great parry by ‘keeper Marc Robinson and Mark Gillan did well to find the top corner with the rebound from 12 yards.
The second period was a more even affair and United managed a couple of decent chances however both Gary Kane and Gerrard Gillan couldn’t keeper their efforts on target.
Late goals from substitutes Andy Brown and Glen Clarke put the finishing touches on a confident performance. Firstly Brown fired home after fellow substitute Stephen McCain poked a ball through to him amid a goalmouth scramble and then the impressive McGerrigan set-up Glen Clarke to find the bottom corner with an assured finished inside the penalty area.
