Loughgall Lakers progressed into the next round of the Davisons Frudles Championship divisional cup with a convincing 4-0 win over Carrick Rangers.
The Lakers started brightly and tested the Carrick ’keeper with some early strikes which weren’t too far off the mark. The first goal of the game wasnt long in coming and it arrived in the form of some great link up play down the right hand side which resulted in a Lynn Lockhart cross which was finely volleyed home by Philippa Dougan Toal.
Carrick rallied, and came close with a chance of their own which keeper Laura Simpson dealt with bravely. Loughgall continued to build up momentum with some neat passing. Rebecca Capper was next to benefit from such play when she received a pass from her industrious midfield, turned and launched a stinging drive which left the keeper rooted to the spot with no chance. The half finished at 2-0.
The second half continued in the same vein as it finished, and it was from this point that the Lakers completely took control of the match with long periods of ball retention and neat passes being knocked all over the pitch with much success. Janice Willis added to her tally this season with two fantastic individual strikes, the first a rebound off the keeper which she rifled home, with the second being a fine solo run beating two players before smashing home.
Changes were made as full use of the bench was availed off, and the match petered out with no further goals.
The Lakers await the announcement of their next opponent in the Davisons Frudles Championship Divisional Cup with great anticipation.
